If you’re looking for something to make you stand out in front of everyone, I mean, to really stand out… you need to look no further than a hat.
Hats are a great alternative: they’re classy, they’re in style and they can give you a few extra inches in height in an instant! What more can you ask?
Let’s take a closer look at the most stylish of them all: the fedora
A Little History
The word “fedora” comes from a play from 1889. The main character was a Princess Fédora, who wore a hat similar to today’s fedora.
That’s when it made its way into the female wardrobe. In time, men started adopting it too and it became very popular due to it’s shape.
While the fedora was widely used in the U.S. up to 1950, it was brought back to life by Michael Jackson. One of the things he became famous for was wearing a black and white fedora:
Do you see how the hat matches his white blazer. This outfit is actually something we can learn (and borrow) from. I wouldn’t go for the flashy pants but a black&white fedora with a white blazer is a great match if you’re the outgoing type.
Fabric
Even though it won’t cover your ears, a fedora can do a great job at keeping your head warm in the winter. (Much of the body heat exists through the head.)
Most fedoras are made of felt, a fabric that’s essentially obtained from compressed wool fabrics. A felt fedora is ideal in the winters and a good choice during summer and autumn.
On hot summer days there is an alternative: the straw fedora. It will allow your body to breathe while blocking those dangerous UV sunrays.
What To Wear it With
A fedora hat can be dressed up or dressed down – it’s up to you. Wear it with a tailored made suit…
Color
Contrary to what you might expect, fedoras come in a wide variety of colors.
Your first choice should be a black fedora, as black is classy and can be matched easier with your tailored made suit…
.:
But don’t let black limit you in any way. How about a gray one?
Or, if you feel up to it, even a blue one:
There are plenty more colors and shades. If you can’t find what you’re looking for in malls, try the Internet. Buying a fedora online is safer than, say, a pair of shoes because the chances of it fitting are very good. You just have to know your size.
